Artscape: Charles Dickens Re-imagined in Shakespeare In Action’s A Weston Christmas Carol

This holiday season,  the classic Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol of past, present and future will be re-imagined with some local flavour, story and song by local theatre company, Shakespeare In Action. A Weston Christmas Carol will be running nightly at 7 pm on December 10, 11 and 12 in Artscape Weston Common’s Rockport Performance Hall, with support from the Pearson Connects Fund.

The Pearson Connects Fund provides subsidies for eligible community and arts groups to access spaces at Artscape Weston Common. The Fund enables community groups, non-profits and local arts organizations to access the performance, event and meeting spaces in the hub to collaborate, create, perform and showcase their work.

For this show, four professional actors and one special (and surprise!) community guest will take the stage for a dramatic reading of the holiday favourite in five sections, with musical accompaniment from the Weston Silver Band Quintet.

“Shakespeare in Action is so excited to partner with the Weston Silver Band Quintet and bring together the Weston community around the holidays this year,” expressed David Di Giovanni, Director of Education at Shakespeare In Action.

“This will be the inaugural year of a tradition we hope we will continue in the years to come. Come join us at the Rockport Performance Hall for a warm, delightful and enchanting evening of music, story-telling and holiday cheer.”

Shakespeare in Action is a diverse theatre company that aspires to enhance the arts and education through exploring and performing Shakespeare and other classical stories. The company is dedicated to fostering literacy, enhancing creativity and promoting speech arts by making the language and stories accessible and relevant to young audiences, their families, and the community.

All performances for A Weston Christmas Carol are pay-what-you-can. The audience is also invited to bring non-perishable food items to support the Weston Area Emergency Support’s local food bank.
